I opened it up to discover my birthday present. An apron made in the style of an apron my mom wears that was her mother's.
I put it on immediately and stood in the front of the mirror, with my hands in the side pockets.
Then I reached into the middle pocket and pulled out a heart-shaped piece of paper that said...
I Love You !!
And I realized that I was feeling like my kids do when they feel my love. I realized that I am still my mother's child, and that she is still her mother's child.
And the gift that symbolizes this, of all things, is an apron. A very beautiful apron.

Thank you, mom!
I love you, too.
I love you, too.
That's so sweet!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
That is the sweetest thing!
ReplyDeleteI would never, never receive such a thing. You are a very fortunate daughter. I hope I remember this post and do such things (which I always longed for while living overseas) for my own daughters. In fact, I've got a package to send to Iris sometime this week (full of Halloween decorations)!
Happy Birthday! You look pretty sweet that apron. Yay for moms.
ReplyDeleteI love the apron. I want/NEED one so badly, and this style is perfect. How lovely.
ReplyDeleteI am honored that our love is
ReplyDeletecelebrated in your blog - the
love grows on ....xxxxx's mom
okay, your mom is awesome. my mom used to write us notes and leave them in our bags, lunches, wherever...she always wrote beatiful sayings...and i vowed after she passed, i would continue this practice with the people i love in life...
ReplyDeleteWhat a heartwarming story! It's such a wonderful reminder of the way that mama love goes on and on and on.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a beautiful thing for your mom to do! I made aprons for the girls in my family for Christmas but my own little girl was still too small . . . now she's at the ripe age of 2 years and I'm thinking about breaking out the sewing machine again. Mom and me aprons . . . so cheesy and so sweet:)
ReplyDeleteThe look on your face is priceless.
ReplyDeletethat is so wonderful. And the note tucked away as an added bit of love is wonderful. Thanks for sharing that, I love this kind of story.
