The Love of a Mother

The other day a package came in the mail from my mom. She usually sends packages to the kids every few weeks, but this one was addressed to me.

I opened it up to discover my birthday present. An apron made in the style of an apron my mom wears that was her mother's.

I put it on immediately and stood in the front of the mirror, with my hands in the side pockets.

Then I reached into the middle pocket and pulled out a heart-shaped piece of paper that said...

I Love You !!

I immediately broke into the hugest smile... My mom loves me!

And I realized that I was feeling like my kids do when they feel my love. I realized that I am still my mother's child, and that she is still her mother's child.

And the gift that symbolizes this, of all things, is an apron. A very beautiful apron.

Thank you, mom!

I love you, too.

  2. That is the sweetest thing!

I would never, never receive such a thing. You are a very fortunate daughter. I hope I remember this post and do such things (which I always longed for while living overseas) for my own daughters. In fact, I've got a package to send to Iris sometime this week (full of Halloween decorations)!

  8. That's such a beautiful thing for your mom to do! I made aprons for the girls in my family for Christmas but my own little girl was still too small . . . now she's at the ripe age of 2 years and I'm thinking about breaking out the sewing machine again. Mom and me aprons . . . so cheesy and so sweet:)
