Baking While Naked

Another Mama-Om Re-Run...

Orlando has a smock. Though he calls it a "pawngk."

It is my smock from when I was a kid. Those stains are thirty years old! He wears it when he is playing with his play-dough. He wears it when he is coloring with markers. I have to admit what a bad mother I am and say that he doesn't wear it while he paints because he doesn't have any paints right now (bad, bad mother!). He wears it when we bake.

He's always naked when he wears it. Granted, he is often naked at home, but the other day he actually took his clothes off in order to put the smock on.

"Okay," I said, "let's bake!"

"Yay! Wait, wait! I need my pawngk!"

"Okay, go and get it. It's hanging up with your coat and sweaters."

"No, you go get it."

"You know where it is," I say encouragingly. "You go get it!" Like it's an exciting adventure.

"No, you go get it."

We go get it together. As I am holding out the smock for his arms, he starts whipping off his clothes.

"Honey, you don't have to be naked to wear your smock."

"Yes, I do." He takes everything off and on the smock goes. He smooths it down with his hands and runs back to the kitchen.

"Come on, mama! Let's bake!!"

I follow his little behind toward the flour, the sugar, the mixer, the mess.

  1. I really like this idea of naked baking, but I'm going to have to find a bigger smock.

Love that photo of your handsome baker!

  4. As I recall, there was a show called the "Naked Chef". And the host was a hottie. Sadly, he did not bake as your son does.

  5. Baking naked rocks!! I love it that you just HAVE to be naked to wear your smock though, that's a new rule I wasn't aware of! What an adorable photo too - love it!!

  6. Huh. My husband just gave me a cookbook called "Cooking in the Nude." I'm pretty sure this isn't what he meant.
